I’m a small-town photographer and educator fueled
by one part glamour, two parts grit, and a whole lotta
grace. You’ll find me chillin’ on an island in Japan for
the next three years, but I’m originally from below the
Mason-Dixon. Most days you can find me dancing
around at home, rockin’ the messy bun, oversized
t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants from high school.
As a photographer, I’ve been awarded by Shoot &
Share, published in both House of Flynn Magazine
and Pretty Presets Magazine, and featured on Looks
Like Film, as well as countless other instagram feeds
and blogs. But truth is, as cool as those moments
were, nothin' compares to seein' the look on your
face when you view your images for the very first
time. I make it easy for ya, keep it fun, and focus
on makin' ya fab. (Oh, I’ll do just about
anything to make you laugh. I'm 95% likely to
word-vomit something ridiculously random during your shoot. So get ready!)
SOME TIPS FOR outfit shopping
My number one tip? Don't feel like you have to go shopping!
Seriously. Nothing is more "you guys" than what is already in your closet! It's important that you feel and look like yourselves, dress how you normally do, and ultimately; be as comfortable as possible! If that's an old band t-shirt and ripped jeans, go with it! Seriously! Since my shoots are def more "adventurous," being comfortable is preeetttty important!
I know this whole "picking what to wear" process can be kinda stressful, so I've put together a guide to help you choose outfits that'll help you both feel super hot - and allow you to move and be comfortable throughout your session!
But keep in mind: these are all JUST suggestions, and I ultimately
want you guys to be you guys - so if none of this resonates with you, feel free to show up in what best fits YOU.
A FEW MORE NOTES
Feel free to bring options, and I'll pull from them what I feel will work best for you guys' shoot! This way, I can make sure the outfits really compliment the locations we're shooting in, and then we'll be golden! So basically, just bring stuff that you feel like a million bucks in, and we'll just pick and choose from that!
For reference, bring like 3 or 4 pairs of bottoms a piece, and 4 or 5 tops each, then you can bring dresses, accessories, jackets, etc. for us to really play up your personalities! It's likely you'll be changing in a car on the side of the road, so if you're down with that - we're golden. Lol! ;)
Think about the locations we'll be shooting in and plan around that! If we're going to be hiking around in the mountains, bring good shoes for that. If we're going to be shooting on the beach, don't worry about shoes! If it's cold, bring layers to stay warm. If it's gonna be hot, wear clothes that breathe! It's that simple!
MOVEMENT
This is literally my favorite part about outfits for couples sessions! Outfits that move always result in the greatest photos. Clothes that move add so much energy to the images, and just straight up rule. So, brand new jeans may be kinda stuff and not allow you to move around in them much, keeping you focused on making sure they're in place - so choosing clothes that are more "broken-in" is definitely the way to go!
COLORS
I'm a huge fan of neutrals and earthy-toned colors. Neutrals don't have to be boring though, there's a neutral in every color! For example: (mustard yellow, forest green, navy blue, burnt orange, etc.) Bright, distracting colors aren't usually good ones to go with. (Like bright pink, oranges and reds.) If you're dead set on it wearing one of these tones, just check with me and I'll see what I can do with it!
PATTERNS
Stay away from loud, chunky patterns. The more small & subtle the patterns are, the better! If they're too loud, they'll distract from your faces. However, flannels are always a yes in my book. ;)
Try to avoid pairing too many patterns together, because it'll make the photos a bit too hectic. Also, be sure to iron your clothes the night before, so there aren't a ton of distracting wrinkles in them!
PROPS
I know when you hear the word "prop," you may think of those little chalkboard things and weird cheesy things on Pinterest, but that's SO not what I mean! Props don't have to be cheesy, (unless it's pizza.) But for real, you could use a pizza picnic, a motorcycle, your dog, your cat, blankets, a truck/car, a campfire, a bouquet, a paddle board, etc.! If you have props you wanna use, just let me know and I'll make it happen!
